Appeal to religious leaders around the world to help to stop China's brutal crackdown at Tibet's Kirti monastery 

Appeal Letter from Kirti Rinpoche 

Kirti Monastery in Ngaba, eastern Tibet has been under severe lockdown for over two months. On 16 March 2011 a young buddhist monk named Phuntsok protested against China's rule in Tibet by setting himself on fire; Phutsok later died. Since then monks from Kirti monastery and Tibetan people from the area have continued to protest, leading to a more intense crackdown with the forcible removal of over 300 monks from the monastery, a further three deaths and the sentencing of two monks to three-year prison terms. The Dalai Lama has said, “ I strongly urge the international community, the governments around the world, and the international non- governmental organizations, to persuade the Chinese leadership to exercise restraint in handling this situation. ” On May 27, Rongpo Choeje Kirti Rinpoche, the leader of Kirti Monastery, has issued a heartfelt appeal to religious leaders and institutions of the world requesting help to stop China's crackdown against the Tibetan people of Ngaba and the buddhist monks of Kirti Monastery.
